Thanks to Story Center for taking me into their digital storytelling workshop last month. Over 3 days, I did a lot of looking inward to in order to express why storytelling is so important to me.

After 25 years of working in traditional broadcast television, storytelling found me. Generative journalism (generating news to build community) called my name. I am graced with the ability to really connect with people. I listen deeply to them. I hear what truly makes their story special and share that so others know about it.

How did I become such a good listener? Well, I produced a story at the Story Center workshop that answers that question. And yes, when I’m used to telling everyone else’s story, this was a challenging yet highly rewarding project.
