On this Valentine’s Day, I think back to when I was in college. I was not accepting of my body type and down on myself when February 14th would roll around and I wouldn’t have a date.
My story is so similar to many college students. That age group is most susceptible to not accepting themselves for who they are and struggling with images the media puts out as “ideal.” For many college students, it is tough to be away from the support of family when academics are challenging.
The Denver-based Eating Recovery Foundation says one in four college students suffers from an eating disorder: anorexia, bulimia or binge eating. So, it supports The Body Project on campuses throughout North America.
The Body Project is a peer group that promotes body acceptance and healthy behaviors. It is very successful in getting college students to open up and support one another. It is proven to prevent eating disorders on campuses.
